This is a cool radio that was made in 1940 before the US got into WWII. It’s a 6 tube AC/DC radio with two receiving bands. The Standard Broadcast band and the obsolete Police Band.
There were some previous repairs done that needed to be dealt with. The original speaker was replaced with a permanent magnet speaker that had to be refit. The push button mechanism is connected to the speaker frame and had to be remounted.
The radio had some cabinet damage that separated at the glue joints. Glue joint separation is a common issue with these vintage radios because the glue was an organic glue that was not as strong as today’s wood glues. The cabinet was re-glued and the finish was freshened with a finish restore product. It is desirable to maintain the original finish on vintage radios rather than refinishing them. The cabinet shows the expected wear from being an 84 year radio.
I sure someone listened to President Roosevelt’s speech declaring war on Japan and his Fireside chats.
