Philco 48-464 Bakelite Radio

This radio received an electronic restoration. It is a six tube AC/DC radio – there is no power transformer. All caps were replaced, an inrush current limiter was added to extend the life of the tubes, and the cord was replaced with a polarized power cord for safety. The audio preamp tube tested weak and was replaced.

Many times with AC/DC radios, there is almost always a tube with an open filament because the tube filaments will act as a fuse. After re-capping the radio, it began receiving radio stations as soon as it was powered the first time.

A minor cleanup of the cabinet got it looking pretty good for being such an old timer. The Bakelite cabinet is not broken or chipped which is very common with Bakelite cabinets because they can be brittle.

The radio was produced post WWII in 1948.
